About my paintings

Georgetta Gancarz

My favorite mediums in painting are acrylic, gold leaf, encaustic, and oils. I consider all forms of creativity an open door to my painting.

The Virgin Mary

Since a child I have been attracted to the Virgin Mary because of her suffering and pure dedication to God. To me she is a symbol of total love. My inspiration is derived from ultimate spiritual experiences.

Madonna Series

All of my Madonna paintings are done in Italy . The cathedrals of Florence are my inspiration. I use gold leaf and burnt sienna pigments from the town of Sienna . My paintings are created in the studio where I teach in the summer. This studio is an old converted convent on the street of San Gallo. I refer to it as the town of miracles.

Landscapes

All of my travels are documented in art. My landscapes range from a wide variety of places all over the world as well as mediums. Whether painted on canvas, wood, glass, or concrete they all show my expressionist style and love for lots of paint and color. Mediums range from acrylic, oil, wax, watercolor, photography to whatever I can find.

The Words

My words on canvas are read like psalms. Often engraved and scraped roughly onto the surface using mixed materials they read like a stream of conscious poem or prayer. They are in Italian, English, Latin and Greek.

The Gothic Series

Georgetta Gancarz is known for her gothic social commentary by her creative dark figures from the streets of New York City and London . The idea of using gothic characters for her canvas remains a constant travel diary. In her art we are reminded of creativity and what comes forth from the self expression of urban rebellion. She continues to exhibit her gothic works in galleries locally and internationally.

Conceptual Mixed Media

I have created these works thinking about art as a relationship to the viewer and myself. The idea becomes as important as the medium itself.

Her Style

Georgetta’s style has been compared to the German expressionist because of her sometimes darker palette, heavy lines, and lots of paint. "I have been painting before I knew what a style was. My paintings reflect my life and experiences, but mostly pieces of my soul".
