Having my wife work in the Fashion/Marketing industry while we were still dating, definitely helped fuel an already strong interest in this area. I explored painting some of that imagery in the past for friends and family, but mostly my major works were of colorful Asian abstract themes. Now that I’ve been painting abstracts for a while now, I strongly felt it was time for a fresh new change and pursue this old passion in me, all the way! This new direction gets me so excited and I feel it will appeal to both women and men alike, with plenty of different views to share. The inspirations for my new work have come from the Fashion/Photography industry. I try to convey the contemporary beauty of women and the sensuality that lies within fashion without putting any real emphasis on a true person or making it too personal. I think we get caught up in a persons face to often. I like to reference fashion photography as a starting point. Then I change the perspective thus, recreating a new energy and excitement, and by intentionally changing the color schemes I can create even more of a unique mood and feel. Creating its own distinct original piece of art. My art expresses the power of women! The beauty, the sensuality, strength, independence, the attitude and fashion. When someone views my artwork I hope to provoke strong thoughts and feelings immediately and leave them with something tangible. I think my paintings definitely leave you with a feeling of wanting or expecting more when viewing them. I believe that’s how fashion and sensuality relate in some aspects, you just need a little tease or flirt, you know, leave something for your imagination as they say. I’ve used acrylics simply because I’m comfortable with it and I like it, also I think it represents more of a contemporary medium than say oils, and since my work uses modern themes with an obvious contemporary look, I think it works well. My long Graphic Design/Advertising background still has a strong hold on me, thus the strong use of bold black lines and my heavily stylized look. Combined with traditional brush stroke backgrounds, bright color schemes and subdued tones, I believe creates somewhat of a new fusion in pop art. Thanks so much! David
