Only six months old my family and I moved to Tacoma , WA from Fort Ord ,Calf.,where my Father would retired at Fort Lewis . I always enjoyed art as long as I can remember and took classes all through my elementary years, became more serious and knew than that I wanted to go into the art/creative world. Much of that was influenced by my excellent Junior High art teacher. Continued and studied art through High School and graduated in ‘87 from Henry Foss, in North Tacoma . I received my Associates in Visual Communications (graphic design/advertising) in fall 1989 from the Art Institute of Seattle. It was during this time I was experimenting in freelance painting for family and friends in a wide variety of themes, flowers, figurative, landscapes, graphic posters and fashion style imagery. It was here were I met my wife who graduated a year earlier in Fashion Merchandising, which added more fuel to my already strong interest and curiosity to this field. Having a hard time of landing any actual steady work in the Graphic design area, despite having an excellent portfolio at the time - I was lacking the necessary ingredient “experience”. Becoming more frustrated over the next few years I turned back to what always gave me a great feeling of accomplishment, pay and response. Being only 21 and trying to take a dive into the fine art world without really knowing anything was huge task. Using mainly my youth and energetic energy along with my Asian/graphic abstract paintings in hand, I went out to hit the Seattle scene. After a taste of a little bit of success and showing for about 3 years in small salon/art galleries, cafes, restaurants, offices, etc. The demands of real life came on fast. Now married with rent and bills to pay I needed a real steady income, taking on work in 92 at a Web printing factory and in 93 as Sign maker/designer job. With my wife becoming pregnant and daughter soon coming in 1995 I found myself working at Baden Sports Inc. in there graphic/production/marketing dept., which is my current full time job today. Trying to juggle being a responsible husband, father, family life and work, with no extra time to spare, my real love for painting natural took a big dry spell. Through 98-2001 I was virtually not painting at all. With my daughter and life become a lot more balance
and work becoming less stressful, I was finding time to slowly get back
into my paintings. Having done abstracts for quite sometime now, I thought
it was time for a new change and revisit my old passion of fashion imagery,
armed with God’s faith, my wife’s support, more money, the
Internet world, past/new experience, solid research, and a strong network
of family, friends and new business acquaintance as well. By 2004 I
was working on a style in which I was comfortable with and by the end
of year through 2005 I found it and was fully emerged into my current
body of work. I now found myself, thanks to Art/Not Terminal Galley
back in the world I missed, in my first solo art show in nearly 14 years.
I want to truly thank everyone for their support. |
