Kim Sweets Artist Statement: My art utilizes the medium of photography combined with the utilitarian art form of quilting. Many of my photo essays are contained within antique quilt patterns; many are contained within the geometric patterns found waiting within the collective unconscious. By taking seemingly disparate elements and combining them geometrically I create patterns, themes, and relationships that might not have been otherwise apparent. These relationships are much like those in our modern world. Serendipity brings us together then combinations of coincidences keep us looking for (and finding) deeper meanings. Many times they are profound, just waiting to be discovered. Such is the nature of art. It is my hope that you enjoy my photo quilts and that you find deepened meanings and connections when you look at them through your mind's eye. |

Justine OBriens Artist Statement: Nothing can be as uniquely temporal and abstract as the environment that surrounds us. The unpredictability of animals in their habitat can never truly be captured nor remain static. I construct collectiveness in color, technique, and material to imitate their world through the eyes of the seeker. |

Clayton Andersons Artist Statement: The earths gifts have always been a salient point with me. The more we can appreciate animals the more likely we'll conserve the world that nurtures them and us. Illustration deciplines my technique. But lately its been spilling over into symbolic/expressionism. |
Barry Sean Little PLATO'S REPUBIC: THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF PEEING |

Barry Sean Little's Artist Statement: Primarily I am concerned with commonly held belief systems, their hierarchical nature, and contextual validity. These topics are explored through a teleological blend of science, religion, mythology, pop culture, folklore and personal genealogy. All of these belief systems fall under one umbrella of importance and their former status is vanquished. Mediocrity is transformed into the sublime and each life experience contains the potential for epiphany. A dialogue between the viewer and each piece is of paramount importance. The language and wordplay of this dialogue is equally critical. The black and white pen and ink drawings focus on balance, precision of mark making, flow, connective layering, and well ordered stream-of-consciousness. I lovingly refer to the technique as penance in ink. The mounted and inked drawings deal with saturation of color, symmetry, allegory, and colloquial autobiography. The varnished, cut, gessoed, and float-mounted qualities of these pieces are born from a reliquary aesthetic. In my work, denseness of information can reveal simplicity of form. Sometimes there is nothing quieter than white noise. |
